How it Works
askHMS is a memership enquiry platform for healthcare providers in Zimbabwe. The
platform is developed and maintained by Spectrum ITS, a wholly owned Zimbabwean
company. askHMS is part of a suite of applications developed for the healthcare
industry.
Registration
In order to use the facility, providers and healthcare insurers are required to
register with askHMS. The registration process is simple and requires very little
information. However, in order to protect the privacy of members, only providers
and healthcare insurers registered with AHFoZ and/or ZIMA will be accepted onto
the platform. During registration, we verify the information provided with AHFoZ
and ZIMA. Upon successful verification we create a username and password which will
be sent to you via email.
Providers
Providers can sign up online. Allow 2-3 days for the verfication process after which
we will get email you back a username and password. (Make sure to provide us with
a valid and correct email address during registration).
Healthcare Insurers
Healthcare Insurers can also sign up online. Allow 2-3 days for the verfication
process after which we will get email you back a username and password. (Make sure
to provide us with a valid and correct email address during registration). Healthcare
Insurers will need to make the necessary arrangements with askHMS to update their
membership information. Data can be made available in realtime, ensuring up-to-the-minute
accuracy of reported membership information, or data can be uploaded onto the website
in CSV format The healthcare insurer has the responibility to ensure that their
askHMS is kept up to date. askHMS will send reminder emails once data is more than
2 weeks old.
Membership Enquiry
When a member presents to the provider, the enquiry can be made based on 3 pieces
of information.
- Member No
- Suffix
- Medical Aid Society
With this information, askHMS will search through the database, or contacts the
medical aid society and requests the relevant information. Any information obtained
is then presented to the provider. In the case of offline data, askHMS will give
an indication of how old the data is.
Information Provided
askHMS makes every effort to provide relevant membership data. Data that is currently
provided includes
- Name
- Address
- ID Number
- Gender
- Subscriptions Status

- Age
In addition to this information, askHMS will also give an indication of how old
the information it is presenting is. This is particularly valid for data obtained
from medical aid societies where we are unable to provide real time data, or when,
for some reason or other, we are unable to obtain the real time results.
NOTE: askHMS is a bureau service. We are unable to guarantee the correctness of
the information obtained from medical aid societies using our platform. We pass
on information provided to us as is. For more information, please read our

HMS Lookup Tool
Some medical aid societies offer our online self service center. By logging onto
the self service centre, you may gain access to a lot more information. The HMS
Lookup provides membership, claims, and payments information. The information provided
is tailored to meet the requirements of members, providers and group account managers.
